Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the width of bias application according to the width of a recording sheet, by detecting the width of the recording sheet when a reverse development is carried out with a unicomponent magnetic toner and an application of bias. CONSTITUTION:The bias voltage is applied between a conductive sleeve 3 and a metallic guide roller 6' of a developing device using a unicomponent magnetic toner. Thus a reverse development is carried out. Grooves 9 are provided to the roller 6' in longitudinal direction with a prescribed space. The guide rollers 6a' and 6b' are electrically insulated from each other by an insulating material 11, and a microswitch 10 or a photosensor is provided to the groove 9 between the rollers 6a' and 6b'. The roller parts 6a' and 6b' are set to the sizes corresponding to the B4 and A4 sizes respectively. Thus when the A4-sized paper passes, a switch works to give the grounding to both parts 6a' and 6b'. While only the part 6a' is grounded when the B4-sized paper passes.
