Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a grease compsn. which is lowly volatile and exhibits low friction torque at low temperatures and a good lubricating effect over a long period of time when applied to light machines such as a sewing machine, by using a mixture of specified poly-α-olefin and a specified tetraester compd. as a base oil.
CONSTITUTION: One pt.wt. poly-α-olefin of formula I (wherein R1 is C5H17) is mixed with 0.2W0.5pt.wt. tetraester of formula II (wherein R2 is a 16W18C straight- chain alkyl) derived from a straight-chain carboxylic acid and pentaerythritol, to produce a base oil (lubricating oil compsn.). A nonsoap thickener such as polyurethane, silica gel or bentonite is added to the above base oil to produce the desired grease compsn.
