Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an optical branching circuit which has excellent reproductivity in terms of manufacture and optional characteristics, by forming the optical branching circuit on a plane substrate by applying photolithography. CONSTITUTION:In a glass substrate 1, grooves 2 and 3 for fixing fibers are made and in those grooves 2 and 3, an incidence fiber 4 and emission fibers 5 are fixed. On the substrate 1 wherein the fibers 4 and 5 are fixed, glass fine grains as core galss are deposited, and the glass fine grains 6' are made transparent by being heated to form a core glass layer 6. After an unnecessary part is removed from the core glass layer 6 by reactive sputter etching, glass fine grains as cladding glass 7 are deposited on the core and then made transparent by being heated.
