Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the life of a fuel cell, and make any matrix component material unnecessary by using highly viscous condensation phosphoric acid as an electrolyte which is tightly interposed between gaseous diffusion electrodes, and thereby reducing the evaporation of the electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:For instance, 85% orthophosphoric acid id mixed with silicon carbide and zirconium oxide, before the mixture is heated. The mixture begins to boil at around 160 deg.C, and its viscosity gradually increases with rising temperatures when it is continuously heated while being stirred. When the mixture is heated at around 300 deg.C for about 1-2hr, a viscous liquid E containing both condensation phosphoric acid and SiC-ZrO2 is obtained. Thus obtained viscous liquid E is evenly applied to a gaseous diffusion electrode N, and the viscous liquid E is held between the electrode N and another gaseous electrode p, thus a battery being constituted.
