Abstract
PURPOSE:The rotation of the stirrer blades is kept constant at a low speed and the rotation of the blades for stirring air into the culture mixture is varied to control the DO, whereby the turbulence of the culture mixture caused by rotation increase in the stirring blades is prevented to increase the yield of microorganism cells. CONSTITUTION:Blades for stirring air into the culture mixture 4 is set on the liquid phase 2 in the tank 1 and a cylindrical draft 5 of a larger diameter than that of the stirring blades 4 is set around the blades so that it extends into the gas phase 3. At the bottom of the liquid phase, is provided the stirring blades 6 and the motor 8 is connected to the blades 6. In the meantime, the motor 7 drives the blades 4. In an example of experiments, the rotation of the blades 6 is kept 300rpm or less and the rotation of the blades 4 with smaller diameter is veried. There is a linear relation between the rotation of the blades 4 and the logarithm of oxygen-absorption rate and the absorption rate linearly and remarkably rises with the increase in rotation.
