Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure the yield stress of a pipe without being affected by the fluctuations in the coefft. of friction of a cone sliding surface by measuring the compressive stresses in the radial direction of the pipe acting upon a working tool disposed between the cone and the pipe. CONSTITUTION:Plural dies 3 engaging to jaws 2 are disposed radially around the cone 1 inserted into a pipe P. When the cone 1 is pulled by a hydraulic cylinder via a rod 4, the plural dies 3 disposed radially are moved in the outside diameter direction of the pipe by being forcibly expanded by the slope 6 of the cone 1, thereby expanding the pipe. During this expanding work, the dies 3, jaw 2, and spacers receive compressive forces as the reaction of the pipe expanding force, and these generate strains in accordance with the compressive stresses that they receive. These strains are measured by the strain gages 7 affixed to the working tool in such a manner as to detect the strains in the radial direction of the pipe, whereby the compressive stresses in the radial direction of the pipe are determined. Thereby, the yield stress is measured accurately without being affected by the coefft. of friction of the working tool.
