Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover a formed raw material compound, by reacting 3,5-dimethyl- 4- lower alkoxycarbonylphthalic anhydride with malonic acid, and treating a filtrate after separating the titled substance with an aqueous solution of an lakali halite.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A 3,5-dimethyl-4-lower alkoxycarbonyl phthalic anhydride is reacted with malonic acid to give (B) a 5,7-dimethyl-6-lower alkoxycarbonyl- 3-hydroxy-3-methylphthalide. In the process, a filtrate after separating the compound (B) is treated with an aqueous solution of an alkali halite to separate the free acid of the formed compound (A) or an alkali metallic salt thereof, which is then reused as the raw material compound. The amount of the halite is preferably 3.5W4.0 times that of the compound (B) and an isomer thereof in the filtrate to be treated.
USE: An intermediate for the compound of the formula (a remedy for thrombosis, etc.).
