Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled substance in high yield, by subjecting a fungus capable of producing DNA synthesis inhibiting substance A to a specific stationary cultivation, followed by treating the prepared culture solution by partition chromatography.
CONSTITUTION: A fungus (e.g., "Penicillium islandicum Sopp") belonging to the genus "Penicillium", capable of producing DNA synthesis inhibiting substance A is first subjected to stationary cultivation (at about 20W30°C for about 10W15 days), the prepared mold lid is inverted in the medium and the stationary culture is made to proceed further. The culture filtrate obtained by removing the mold lid is subjected to adsorption with active carbon, desorption, and treatment with an organic solvent so that a crystalline mixture is separated. The prepared crystalline mixture is subjected to partition chromatography (a developing solution: a mixed solution of chloroform and methanol in a weight ratio of 4:1) using silica gel, to give a DNA synthesis inhibiting substance A (substances shown by the formulas I and II).
