Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a functional crosslinked copolymer safe and simple in reaction operation, by reacting an aromatic nucleus-containing vinyl monomer with aluminum chloride and a reaction solution of an alcohol and formaldehyde and then aminating the product.
CONSTITUTION: Amination is effected on a chloromethylated product obtained by reacting a crosslinked copolymer based on an aromatic nucleus-containing vinyl monomer with aluminum chloride and a solution formed by dissolution of formaldehyde in a alcohol in the presence of an organic solvent having affinity for the crosslinked copolymer. Said solution is a solution of an equilibrated mixture of a hemiacetal obtained by the reaction between the alcohol and formaldehyde and is a reasonable material as an aldehyde source because it is stable and its aldehyde and alcohol content does not change with the lapse of time.
