Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the short pass of the untreated gas in the gap part in a reactor used at elevated temps. by packing catalysts in the form of grains, flexible fibers or flexible cloth in the gap part between a monolith catalyst packed part and the inside wall part of the reactor. CONSTITUTION:A monolith catalyst packed bed 1 is supported by means of a base materials 2 supporting a catalyst bed. The materials 2 is bolted to the inside wall of the reactor with a supporting member 6 so as to be made freely expandable and contractable owing to thermal expansion. A metallic screen 5 is placed on the bottom part in the space part 4 generated between the side end part 3 of the monolith catalyst bed and the inside wall of the reactor, and granular catalysts and/or flexible fibrous catalysts and/or flexible cloth-like catalysts are packed in this part 4.
