Abstract
PURPOSE: To economize running cost of continuous casting process by eliminating any special tandish, by installing a flat type spiral coil above the surface of the molten steel bath in the tandish and by performing an electro-magnetic induction heating on the molten steel.
CONSTITUTION: In a continuous casting process in which a molten metal in a ladle 3 is poured into a mold 5 through a tandish 2, the molten metal 4 in the tandish 2 is electro-magnetic induction heated from the tap by a flat type spiral coil 1 installed closely to the surface of the steel bath, and the molten steel 4 is maintained in a range of prescribed temperature. In this case, the flat type spiral coil 1 is held at an appropriate location above the surface of the steel bath, because the distance between the coil 1 and the molten steel 4 is the less, the higher the efficiency of the electromagnetic induction heating.
