Abstract

PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the dispersibility in a binder by adhering SiO2 to the surface of microminiature particles of hexagonal ferrite having mean grain size of 0.01-0.3mum. CONSTITUTION:0.014mol of BaCl2.2H2O, 0.13mol of FeCl3.6H2O, 0.01mol of TiCl4, and 0.01mol of CoCl2.6H2O are dissolved in 200ml of pure water, the solution is then mixed with solution of 40ml of pure water, 50g of NaOH and 12.5g of NaCO3, and co-precipitate is prepared. After the co-precipitate is washed and dried, it is heat treated at 900 deg.C for 2hr to prepare Co-Ti substituted Ba ferrite particle group having mean grain size of 0.12mum, and is suspended at 100g in 2l of pure water. The solution obtained by suspending 1g of SiO2 particles having mean grain size of 0.013mum is filled while stirring it, and the precipitate is dried. The magnetic powder adhered with the SiO2 on the surfaces of the ferrite particles in this manner has extremley good dispersability in the binder. Accordingly, the degree of orientation of the ferrite particles can be improved, and the degree of gloss can also be improved, thereby obtaining magnetic recording medium of high quality.
