Abstract
PURPOSE: Titanium tetrahalide and an organoaluminum compound are brought into contact with each other in the presence of the monomer at a specific temperature and the product is combined with a vanadium compound soluble in an organic solvent to give a catalyst, then the catalyst is used to give the well-randomized copolymer with high processability and tensile strength.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst consisting of (A) titanium tetrahalide such as titanium tetrachloride, (B) a vanadium compound soluble in an organic solvent such as vanadium tetrachloride and (C) an organoaluminum compound such as tri-isobutylaluminum is used to effect the copolymerization of 2 or more kinds of olefin monomers such as ethylene and propylene wherein at least the component A is brought into contact with the component C in the presence of the olefin monomers at a temperature lower than 5°C and then the component B is added to prepare the catalyst.
