Abstract

PURPOSE: A polyolefin composition, containing a specific amount of glass and magnesium hydroxide and an aromatic bromine compound as flame retardants, and having high rigidity and high flame retardancy.
CONSTITUTION: A polyolefin composition containing (A) 100pts.wt. polyolefin resin, preferably consisting of polypropylene essentially, (B) 50W200pts.wt. magnesium hydroxide, preferably having a particle diameter of 0.1W20μ and a specific surface area of 20m2/g or less measured by the BET method and the surface pretreated with a surfactant, e.g. stearic acid, (C) 5W150wt%, based on the component (B), aromatic bromine compound, e.g. hexabromobenzene, in which bromine atoms are directly linked to the benzene nucleus, and (D) 3W40wt% glass, e.g. in a particulate or fibrous form. The addition of antimony trioxide to the composition provides higher flame retardancy.
