Abstract

PURPOSE: A thermoplastic propylene block copolymer excellent in heat resistance and impact resistance (particularly at low temperatures), containing, in addition to propylene, a 5W12C straight α-olefin and ethylene and having a limiting viscosity within a specified range.
CONSTITUTION: A propylene block copolymer containing 2W40wt% α-olefin and 1W50wt% ethylene in addition to propylene, having a limiting viscosity of 0.3W 15dl/g (in decalin at 130°C) and having the wt. percentages of fractions obtained by consecutive extraction with o-dichlorobenzene at 40W80°C, their melting peak temperature measured by a differential scanning colorimeter (DSC) and their α-olefin contents and thylene contents, set forth in the table. This block copolymer is a material having a good valance between heat resistance and impact resistance within the range of flexible to semirigid state. The block copolymer has sufficient impact resistance to withstand applications even at -40°C or below and, of course, at normal temperature and has high heat resistance (≥140°C).
