Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture good quality coke, by method in which fine particulate coal obtained by removing finely powdered coal from pulverized coal obtained by crushing coal is partly pelletized and mixed with the remaining fine particulate coal and briquetted for use.
CONSTITUTION: Pulverized coal obtained by crushing raw material coal is classified to remove finely powdered coal, and a binder (e.g., soft pitch having a softening point of approx. 35°C) is added to part of the fine particulate coal obtained, kneaded by heating, and then pelletized. Then, the pelletized coal is mixed with the remaining fine particlulate coal and briquetted. The obtained briquettes are subjected to the usual carbonization to obtain coke.
