Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent powder particles from sintering and getting out of shape during heat treatment and provide the powder being uniform and compact and having excellent magnetic characteristics, by having specific hydroxides contained in the suspension of ferrous hydroxide when forming α-oxy ferric hydroxide in an alkaline region.
CONSTITUTION: An oxygen containing gas is introduced into the suspension of ferrous hydroxide having an adjusted pH of at least 11 to form α-oxy ferric hydroxide. The above-mentioned suspension contains the hydroxide compounds of an alkaliearth metal (expressed by Me) and Ni prior to the gas introduction. The component Me is caught by the deposited particles of α-oxy ferric hydroxide to effectively prevent the particles from sintering and getting out of shape during the treatment of heating and reduction. The hydroxide compound of Ni inhibits the formation of branch type particles and causes the deposition of α-oxy ferric hydroxide comprising the needle like particles having an uniform particle size. Further the reaction in an alkali region results in the compact particles.
