Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the temp. drop of a high temp. object to be treated which is being conveyed and save energy by enclosing a roll body with a heat insulating material and a reflection plate, and disposing a large number of curved projections made of ceramics on the reflection plate. CONSTITUTION:The outside circumferential part of a roll body 5 of a cold insulating roll used in a continuous casting installation is enclosed with a heat insulating material 6 and a reflection plate 7 successively. Many pieces of supports 8 made of ceramics consisting of curved rectangular trapezoidal plate parts 9 secured with semispherical projecting bodies 10 are disposed on this plate 7. The supports 8 are screwed freely removably to the roll body 5 by fixing means 11 such as bolts inserted through the plate 7 and the material 6. The projecting bodies 10 of the supports 8 contact with the high temp. object to be treated in the state of point contact, thereby decreasing the contct area with the roll 1. Hence, the quantiy of heat transfer from the object to be treated to the roll decreases and the quantity of thermal energy required during reheating is reduced.
