Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove the ink droplets, and the like which are adhered to deflecting electrodes of an ink jet printer by moving a liquid-absorbing pad between the electrodes when the printing operation of the printer is stopped. CONSTITUTION:When the ink jet printer is turned OFF, a solenoid mechanism 34 is excited so that a setting lever 37 is displaced to the piston indicated by the dotted line and collides against a spring 23 of a cleaning member 20. As a result of the collision, the cleaning member 20 provided with the liquid-absorbing pads 21 (e.g., Japanese paper) on both upper and lower sides thereof is moved between a pair of deflecting electrodes 3 in accordance with the fitting between guide grooves 24 provided on its side faces and guide rails 25 of guide plates 22, thereby removing the ink droplets and the like which are adhered to the electrodes 3. Then, when the printer is turned ON, a recording head 33 is moved to a right margin position, whereby a spring 39 provided at a resetting post 38 and the cleaning member 20 interposed between the electrodes 3 are collided against each other, so that the cleaning member 20 is moved leftward and is returned to its initial position.
