Abstract

PURPOSE: Boric acid or a borate salt is dissolved in an alcohol plasticizer and they are mixed with an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer to produce a resin composition having markedly improved impact strength and moldability.
CONSTITUTION: An ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer of 25W60mol% ethylene content and more than 96% saponification degree, preferably of 0.05W0.15l/g intrinsic viscosity, (100pts.wt.) is kneaded with a solution of boric acid or borate salt (0.05W 3pts.wt.) in an alcohol plasticizer such as glycerol (2W15pts.) heated at 60W80°C. The resultant composition is used as at least one layer to effect multilayer extrusion, thus producing multilayered vessels with less uneveness in wall-thickness, especially for forming hollow vessels.
USE: Vessels for organic chemicals, agricultural chemicals, subliming chemicals, petroleum, edible oil and oil-resistant car parts.
