CONSTITUTION:An incoming light from a slit S is reflected on a collimator concave mirror M1 to be separated with a grating G and reflected with an image forming concave mirror M2 to obtain a spectrum on a surface P. In a spectrometer of such a type, the tight scattering surface of the grating is so arranged as to be a cylindrical surface of a very moderate curvature having a parallel bus. The grating G with the cylindrical surface is formed by a holographic method. As a result, a horizontal image is formed in infinity and an vertical image at a finite distance creating an astigmatism, which can be minimized by deriving an optimal value from a re- lationship between an angle alpha of incidence, an angle beta of reflection and a radius Rcy of curvature R of the cylindrical part as given by (cosalpha+cosbeta)/Rcy=0. Thus, a spectrometer with a corrected astigmatism can be produced.
