Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce clad material of well quality at high welding speed even from a thin base material and a thin composite plate by pressure welding slag packed into a V-shaped space in between opposing faces of the base material and of the cladding material, which are just before of pressure welding through a drawing roll, together with said base material and said cladding material through the drawing roll as it is heated up with the electric current applied. CONSTITUTION:Proper amount of granular slag 7 is packed into a space between a base material 1 and a cladding material 2, which are so opposed as to form V- shape, and the top ends of >=1 electrodes 5 for electro-slag-heating are always made to be located into this slag. Then, electric current is applied from a source of three- phase AC power through terminals for power contacted with the material 1, the material 2 and the electrodes 5, and the granular slag 7 is so made to heat through the arc discharge so to be made into the partially melting state. Further, as start from this state, the temperature of the melted slag 7 is so made to rise up to 1,700- 1,800 deg.C through the Joule's heat generated with the slag served as a resistor that the opposed faces of the material 1 and the material 2 are made into the melting state respectively. Next, at this state, the material 1 and the material 2 are pressure- welded and, at the same time, drawn through rolls 4 at high welding speed of 30- 120mm./min, then a clad material is formed. Through hot- or cold-rolling said clad steel sheet of prescribed thickness is produced.
