Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the supercharging efficiency of intake air while operating and hence to improve the output performance by a device wherein air is fed into an intake path on the upstream side of a blower in the turning direction of the blower and in the tangential direction of the intake path while an engine operates at a low speed and high load.
CONSTITUTION: An engine 1 includes a turbocharger 5 comprising a turbine 6 interposed in an exhaust path 4 and a blower 7 interposed in an intake path 2. The intake path 2 on the upstream side of the blower is branched into a primary intake path 11 of a smaller diameter and a secondary intake path 12 of a larger diameter at the downstream of an air flow meter 3. A primary and secondary control valve 13, 14 are interposed in the paths 11, 12, respectively, whereas the downstream side of the primary intake path 11 is joined with the secondary intake path 12 at the upstream side of the blower 7. Then, the primary intake path 11 is so arranged that an air current therefrom is swirled in the same direction as the turning direction of the blower 7 and fed in the tangential direction of a wall surface 2a of the intake path. While operating at a low speed and high load, the primary control valve 13 is fully opened in conjunction with a throttle valve 8.
