Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure an intensity of illumination on a road within a measuring error with a device mounted on a car, by calculating the maximum value/minimum value of a vertical intensity of illumination for the measuring error of the horizontal intensity of illumination. CONSTITUTION:A horizontal intensity of illuminating is converted into an electric signal at a photodetector 10 and transmitted to an analog switch 12 via e.g., an amplifier 11. Further, a vertical intensity of illumination is converted into an electric signal at a photodetector 13 and this signal is transmitted to a maximum value detection circuit 15 and a minimum value detection circuit via e.g. an amplifier 14 to detect the maximum and minimum values, and these are divided at a division circuit 17 to obtain the ratio of maximum value/minimum value. Further, when this output is more than a given value, a comparator 18 is made at high level to turn the analog switch 12 to output the signal of a horizontal intensity of illumination. Further, the maximum value detection circuit 15 and the minimum value detection circuit 16 are cleared with pulses produced when the photodetector 10 passes beneath a lighting device with a detection circuit 19 of the location beneath lighting and a wave shape circuit 20.
