Abstract
PURPOSE: The copolymerization of acrylic acid or the like is conducted using a compound having triazine structure as a crosslinking component to readily produce a high water-absorption resin used for separation membranes and medical materials, because of its high water absorption, high stability and high gel strength when absorbs water.
CONSTITUTION: Using (A) a compound having triazine ring of formulaIor II(R1, R2, R3 are -CH2-CH=CH2, -CH2-C=CH, -CH2-C(CH3)=CH2) such as triallyl isocyanurate as a crosslinking agent, the thermal polymerization of (B) methyl methacrylate is effected in the presence of a polymerization initiator such as lauryl peroxide. The resultant copolymer is heated in a methanol-water-sodium hydroxide system to effect saponification to produce the objective resin consisting of an acrylic acid copolymer.
