Abstract

PURPOSE:To save annealing, hardening, tempering, and honing of die materials and work arbitrary positions quickly by hardening the prescribed shielded range of the cutting blade part of a base material which is machined to a prescribed shape only through heating with laser beam. CONSTITUTION:In the production of the punch and die of press blanking dies, a moving device 8 fixes and holds, for example, a die 2, and moves the same in directions B so that laser beam 5b is irradiated accurately along its surface hardening and heat treating part. A controller 9 instructs the laser beam 5a and its generation time to a laser oscillator 4, the constant holding of the distance between the treating part and a focusing lens 6 to a moving device 7, and further the moving speed and distance in the directions B to the device 8. The light 5a is focussed by the lens 6 down to the light 5b treatable energy and irradiates the die 2 along its cutting blade part, thereby forming a locally hardened layer 11. At this time, a shielding plate 12 made of copper or the like is provided in order to shield the range X from the end face of the cutting blade part from the light 5b. The range X is important and changes with treating and working conditions.
