Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the overcharge resistant ability and the boosting charge performance of a battery by placing a water-repellent porous body between the inner wall of a container, and negative plates located in the outermost sides of an assembled element, and thereby efficiently absorbing oxygen gas with the negative plates. CONSTITUTION:Pasted positive plates 1 and pasted negative plates 2 are stacked alternately with separators 3 interposed between them, thereby forming an assembled element. Here, negative plates 2 are made to locate in both sides of the assembled element . After the assembled element is inserted in a plastic container 5, a safety valve 6, a positive lead 7 and a negative lead 8 are provided. Following that, sulfuric acid is poured into the container so that is doesn't move freely liberated from the negative plates 2 located in both sides of the assembled element are covered with a water-repellent porous body such as a mat 4 made of glass fiber in the shape of a U, so that the mat 4 comes in contact with the plates 2. The former porous body is preferred to be made water repellent with a fluorine resin or a silicone resin.
