Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled dope capable of providing fibers (films) of a high-MW cellulose derivative at low cost, prepared by dissolving in water a cellulose derivative obtained by adding an esterifying (or etherifying) agent to a specified cellulose solution.
CONSTITUTION: An esterifying agent, e.g., acetic anhydride or methylene diacetate, or an etherifying agent, e.g., acrylonitrile or acrylamide, is added to and reacted with a solution prepared by dissolving about 5W10wt% cellulose in a mixture (mol ratio about 2/1W4/1) of dimethyl sulfoxide and formaldehyde. Next, the resulting water-soluble cellulose ester (or ether), degree of substitution 0.3W0.8, is dissolved in water to obtain a cellulose derivative dope for molding.
