Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a thermoplastic polyurethane excellent in tensile strength, etc., by emplying a high-MW diol consisting mainly of a polyoxyalkylene glycol havng a reduced total degree of unsaturation as a diol component.
CONSTITUTION: A polyoxyalkylene diol containing at least 40wt% oxypropylene chains and having a total degree of unsaturation of 5meq/g or below is prepared. Then, the thermoplastic polyurethane of the purpose is obtained by adding a chain extender, e.g., propylene glycol or 1,2-butanediol, and a diisocyanate compound, e.g., tolylene diisocyanate or diphenylmethane diisocyanate, to a diol component consisting of the low-unsaturation degree polyoxyalkylene diol alone or its mixture containing not more than half the total of another high-MW diol, e.g., polytetra- hydrofuran, and reacting the resulting mixture.
