Abstract
PURPOSE: To contemplate the re-use of a shaft furnace and to obtain water gas of good quality with high efficiency, by a method wherein raw lump coal and steam are suppied as a descending stream from the upper part of the furnace during an endothermic period, and powdered coal for fuel, oxygen and steam are supplied from the lower part of the furnace during an exothermic period.
CONSTITUTION: During an endothermic period, araw lump coal and steam heated to 800°C are supplied from the upper part of a furnace. This steam is introduced into a boiler to exchange heat for the sensible heat of produced gas heated to 1,000°C and recovered from a furnace belly shown in the lower half of the Figure. The resulting steam heated to 200°C is passed througth a supper heater to exchange heat for the sensible heat of produced gas heated to 1,200°C and recovered from the lower part of the furnace during a gasification period, whereby part of steam passed through the superheater and heated to 800°C is supplied. During an exothermic period, lump coal is supplied from the upper part of the furnace. Powdered coal, oxygen and part of said steam passed through the superheater and heated to 800°C, are supplied from the lower part of the furnace to burn coal, whereby temperature in the lower part of the furnace is brought to 1,800W2,500°C. This temperature is necessary for the enadothermic period of a next cycle.
