Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a small-size linear illumination light source having a high intensity of illumination, by using a hot-cathode fluorescent tube as a light source and by leading the light of this light source by a thin light guide constituting a part of a vessel. CONSTITUTION:A vessel 11 which is formed slenderly in the longitudinal direction of the paper surface and has the inside held in vacuum consists of a substrate 11a, side plates 11b, and a light guide 11c where the inside is transparent and the surface except both end faces consists of a light reflecting film 10. Further, a hot- cathode fluorescent tube consists of an anode electrode 6, a fluorescent film 7, a grid electrode 8, and a filament 9. The light emitted from the fluorescent film 7 is led to the upper end face of the light guide 11c directly or while being reflected by the light reflecting film 10, and therefore, the light flux on the upper end face is approximately equivalent to that on the luminous face of the fluorescent film 7. Since the light guide can be several mm. thick, a small-size and high-efficiency linear light source without degradation of resolution and lowering of contrast is obtained for illuminating originals of a fascimile or the like.
