Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an always correct image contrast, by forming a preliminary latent image while changing exposure before forming a practicable latent image, measuring the potential of the trial latent image, and allowing an image contrast adjusting means to store its exposure for a given time when this measured value becomes a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:A potential sensor 10 situated on the downstream of a corona discharger 3 detects the potential of a latent image on a photoreceptor 1. This sensor 10 measures the potential of a trial latent image on the photoreceptor 1 in the state where a lamp 13a is turned on and its intensity is changed whereas a lamp 13 for imagewise exposure, is turned off before the latent image to be used practically is formed. This measured value is fed back to a controller 11, where the measured value is compared with a predetermined target value, the potential of the trial latent image is approached to the target value by computing this difference with a certain constant or a function, thus permitting the exposure quantity determined by this computation to be set in the central part of a density adjusting dial, and a standard image to be obtained.
