Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce adding quantity of alkaline agent considerably in carrying out dehydration treatment of concentrated sludge produced through concentrating the sludge, which is acidified previously, in the drinking water by dehydrating mechanically the concentrated sludge as ferric chloride is added only into the alkaline agent.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge 1 containing aluminum hydroxide, which is produced in drinking water at a water treatment plant, is delivered into a mixing vessel 2, and its pH value is prepared to be ≤4 through adding a mineral acid 3 such as a sulphuric acid or a hydrochloric acid, or the like, into said sludge, thereafter, thus treated sludge is made to concentrate with a thickening machine 4. Since overflowing supernatant water 5 contains Al ions, which are generated through reaction of the mineral acid upon the aluminum hydroxide, the water 5 is made to reuse as flocculant in the water treatment plant. to concentrated sludge 6, which is produced through concentration with the machine 4, ferric chloride is added and these are mixed in the 1st mixing vessel 7, and, to thus treated sludge, alkaline agent 10 such as calcium hydroxide or caustic soda or water glass, or the like, is added and these are mixed in the 2nd mixing vessel 9, thereafter, thus treated sludge is separated into dehydration cake 12 and filtered liquid 13 of dehydration through dehydration treatment with a mechanical hydro-extrator 11 such as a filter press, or the like. By this method, both the consuming quantity of the alkaline agent and the producing quantity of the dehydration cake are reduced remarkably.
