Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the efficiency of amplifiers provided with DC-DC converters, by changing the power supply voltage of an amplifiers according to an input signal. CONSTITUTION:An input signal from an input terminal 9 is rectified and integrated at a rectification and integration circuit 1 to form an envelope signal for the input signal. This signal is compared with the output of a DC-DC converter 4 at a comparator 2, and the output is given to the pulse width modulator 3 being a control voltage. A pulse train with different pulse width is produced according to the control voltage of the modulator 4 to perform on/off control for switching elements of the converter 4. Thus, the output voltage of the converter 4 is increased or decreased in proportion to the envelope signal of the input signal. This voltage is applied as the power supply voltage of an output stage connected to a preamplifier. Since the power supply voltage of the amplifier is changed according to the input signal, the efficiency of the amplifier can be increased.
