Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a clad wire rod of a large diameter coated with amorphous metal by passing a core material through a crucible holding molten metal, and providing a groove of a semicircular shape in section on roll surfaces in a twin roll method for amorphous metallic wire rods. CONSTITUTION:A wire rod 1 of carbon steel, low alloy steel, etc. as a core material is passed through a crucible 2 having a through-hole at the center in the bottom, and molten metal which is made amorphous is supplied into the crucible 2 is flowed around the rod 1. Thence, the rod 1 is passed continuously into the circular hole H formed by the opposite provision of a pair of high speed revolving rolls 3 each having a circumferential groove G of a semcircular shape in section, and the molten metal 5 around the same is flowed, by which the clad wire 9 coated with the armophous metal on the core material surface is obtained under quick cooling, and solidifying as well as shaping of the outside surface of the coated metal.
