Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve quality by dividing casting plural times in centrifugal casting of thick-walled articles.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of centrifugal casting a thick-walled pipe of about 10mm wall thickness with sand molds, the 1st stage casting of, for example about 40mm wall thickness is carried out. At the point of the time when this solidifies by as much about 50W90% thcknesses from the outside surface, the 2nd stage casting of about 30mm wall thickness is carried out. At the point of the time when this 2nd layer solidifies by about 50W90% thickness, the 3rd stage casting corresponding to the remaining thickness is carried out. At this time, fluxes may be sprayed on the inside surfaces after casting of the respective layers. At the casting of the 2nd and 3rd layers, the previous layer is in a high temp. state and therefore, the low temp. molten metal can be used at the casting of the next layer. Hence, the total required time since casting until solidifying can be made shorter than that of integral casting. As a result, the solidification segregation of the inside surface of the pipe wall thickness and the centrifugal separation segregation are reduced, and the products of good cast structure are obtained.
