Abstract
PURPOSE: To make solidified layers uniform over the entire length by varying the casting directions of the 1st layer and 2nd layer from each other in centrifugal casting of double layer pipes.
CONSTITUTION: Molten metal is cast through a casting hopper 2 or the like from the position A side at one end of a rotary mold 1. At the point of the time when the last layer solidifies to about 50W100% thickness from the outside surface, the molten metal of the 2nd layer is cast from the position C side at the other end of the mold 1 toward the direction opposite from that of the 1st layer through a separate hopper 2' or the like. Then, after casting of the 1st layer, the position A side is higher in thermal energy than the position C side, but with the molten metal cast of the 2nd layers, the thermal energy distribution is conversely lower on the position A side and higher on the position C side. Hence, the total sum of thermal energy is average upon completion of the casting of the two layers. Therefore, the melt-sticking boundary of the 1st solidified layer and the fresh 2nd layer mixed and formed with the unsolidified layer as well as the remolten layer and the 2nd layer molten metal is made uniform over the longitudinal direction of the double layer pipes.
