Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polyolefin having a high-bulk density and a sharp particle size distribution, by polymerizing an olefin in the presence of an organometallic compound and a component prepared by allowing a specified solid carrier to support a titanium compound or a vanadium compound.
CONSTITUTION: A solid carrier is prepared by reacting a product obtained by the reaction between a solid inorganic oxide and a carboxylic acid halide with an organomagnesium compound. Next, an olefin or lefins are (co)polymerized in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an organometallic compound and a component prepared by allowing the solid carrier to support a titanium compound and/or a vanadium compound. Preferable examples of the titanium compound include, for example, tetravalent-titanium compounds of the formula: Ti(OR)nX4-n, wherein R is a 1W20C alkyl, an aryl or an aralkyl, X is a halogen atom and 0≤n≤4. As the vanadium compound, there can be mentioned vanadium tetrachloride, vanadium oxychloride or triethoxyvanadyl.
