Abstract
PURPOSE: To thicken a latex without producing floc, by using an acylic acid copolymer as a thickening agent in the thickening of a fluorine-contg. polymer latex useful for paints.
CONSTITUTION: In the thickening of a fluorine-contg. polymer latex obtd. by (co) polymerizing a fluorine-contg. monomer such as vinylidene fluroride, vinyl fluoride, tetrafluoroethylene or perfluoromethyl vinyl ether, an acrylic acid copolymer is used as a thickening agent, whereby said latex can be thickened without damaging the stability thereof. Preferred acrylic acid copolymers are those composed of 100W 80wt% acrylic acid component. As a monomers to be copolymerized, and alkyl (meth)acrylate is preferred. It is preferred to use the acrylic acid copolymer in the form of ammonium salt or an alkali metal salt.
