Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an emulsion with excellent mechanical stability and little foamability, suitable as a sizing material which is prepd. by use of a specified dispersant in the preparation of an aq. emulsion of a rosin material by phase reversion.
CONSTITUTION: A rosin material consisting of 0W95wt% rosin and 5W100wt% reinforced rosin is heated and molten, to which a dispersant of the formula (wherein R is a hydrocarbon group. of a rosin acid; A is >c=0 or CH2; n is 4W20; one of X and Y is H, and the other is SO3M; M is a monovalent cation) and watr, or an aq. soln. of said dispersant is added with agitation, to form an emulsion (A) contg. water as a dispersed phase and the rosin material as the continuous phase. The emulsion A is subjected to phase reversion with addition of hot water at 70W100°C under agitation, to obtain the titled emulsion (B) contg. water as the continuous phase and the rosin material as the dispersed phase.
