PURPOSE:To prevent abnormally high voltage electrostatic charging of a drum, and prevent the damaging, image quality degradation, etc., of a recorder by making at least one of electrostatic chargers making the potential on a photoreceptor lower controllable separately from the remaining chargers. CONSTITUTION:Electrostatic chargers 11, 13, 19, 26 having the effect of lowering the surface potential of a drum 1 are so arranged that the operation of at least one of these charges is made controllable separately from the operation of the other chargers required for image formation and is made controllable so as to prevent the surface potential from increasing abnormally high. Namely, a high voltage transformer 31 is connected to an electric power source 29 via a no-fuse breaker 30, and a secondary electrostatic charger 13 is connected to this transformer 31. Further, a transformer 33 is connected in parallel with the transformer 31 via a no-fuse breaker 32, and the chargers 11, 12, 19, 25, 26 are connected thereto. Thereby, the abnormally high voltage charging of the drum is prevented and the damaging of the device and image quality degradation are prevented.
