Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the internal resistance of a silver battery, and enhance the characteristics at low temperatures by using a separator which is prepared by laminating not less than two grafted films of a given kind before a given electrolyte absorber is superposed on the laminated grafted films. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 4, which is prepared by pressing and molding a mixture powder principally containing argentous oxide into a disclike shape, and a separator 1 are placed in a positive can 5. A negative terminal plate 6 is packed with a negative electrode 8 made of an amalgamated zinc. The negative terminal plate 6 is fixed to the positive can 5, with an annular gasket 7 interposed between the plate 6 and the can 5, to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes a silver battery. The separator 1 is prepared by laminating not less than two grafted films 2, which are made by grafting polyolefin films with either acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, and superposing an electrolyte absorber 3 such as vinylon-rayon mixed paper or non-woven cloth made of rayon, which is eluted into the electrolyte and reduces silver ions, on the negative-side film 2.
