Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the accuracy of filtration as well as make easier the washing and regeneration of filter medium by preventing the formation of short-circuited flow path in the filtration of suspended liquids by using a filtering device with a filter layer consisting of short fiber groups in which the upper filter layer has a specific form and a developing portion.
CONSTITUTION: In a filtering tank 11 for suspensions, an upper perforated plate 12 and a lower perforated plate 12' are provided, between which a filter layer 14 consisting of short fiber groups 13, whose diameter is gradually reduced from its lower part toward its upper part. And, a filter medium developing portion 15 is provided in the middle of the filtering tank 11. A suspension to be filtered is charged into the filtering tank 11 through a supply pipe 16, passed through the filter layer 14, and then taken out of the upper perforated plate 12 in the form of purified water. Since the density of the short fiber groups 13 inside the filter layer 14 is gradually increased from below to above, no short-circuited flow path occurs for the flow of the suspension and therefore, the accuracy of filtration becomes higher. Also, since the filter medium 13 is loosened and expanded and also moves toward the developing portion in case where washing is made by passing liquid through the filter medium 13 of the filter layer 14 from reverse direction, the regeneration of the first medium 13 by removing and washing suspended substances present can be easier.
