Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the machining precision of a work in a crankshaft lathe by a method wherein the work is gripped by a work spindle head at the vicinity of its machining part and rotated.
CONSTITUTION: The work 16 is supported between the tailstock 63 of a main spindle head 22 and the tail stock 64 of a loose head stock 15. Then, the main spindle head 17 of a work spindle is moved to the position of the tail stock 64 holding the work 16 and the face driver 64' of the tail stock 64 is gripped by this main spindle head 17. Thus, the work 16 is turned through the rotation of the face driver 64'. For example, the chucking part 16a of the work 16 is machined, then, the main spindle head 17 is moved to the chucking part 16a, the chucking part 16a is gripped and turned and the work 16 is machined by cutters 13a, 18a of the right and left turret heads 13, 18 as desired.
