Abstract

PURPOSE:To combine and transmit only required parts of an original, by converting the picture of the light, which is obtained by scanning of a sheet-shaped optical fiber, to an electric signal with an image sensor and by transmitting the electric signal. CONSTITUTION:In a sensor part 3, optical fibers have a sheet cable structure and are arranged in two lines of a fiber 3a for light source guide and a fiber 9b is light receiving part to scan characters. The light generated from a light source 9 is incident to the original through the fiber 3a, and a reflection light signal corresponding to the variable density of the original 10 is received by the fiber 3b. A CCD image sensor 4 converts the intensity signal of the optical signal to an electric signal and connects the picture signal to a telephone line or the like through an amplifier 5, an encoder 6, a band compressor 7, and a MODEM8. Thus, only required parts of the original are picked up and combined and transmitted.
