Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a high strength brass alloy having a low coefft. of frinction and superior wear resistance and consisting of a prescribed percentage each of Cu, Mn, Fe, Al, Ni, Bi, P, Ti graphite, and the balance Zn.
CONSTITUTION: This brass alloy consists of, by wt., 55.0W83.0% Cu, 0.1W5.0% Mn, 0.5W4.0% Fe, 0.5W7.5% Al, 0.1W1.0% Ni, 0.1W20.0% Bi, 0.1W1.0% P, 0.1W2.0% Ti, 1.0W10% graphite, and the balance Zn. By dispersing graphite as a solid lubricant in a high strength brass alloy having superior toughness and corrosion resistance, the wear resistance is enhanced remarkably, and a synergistic effect on lubrication can be produced by the coexistence of Bi and graphite. The suitable shape of graphite to be easily exposed to the sliding surface is lump or spherical. This wear- resistant high-strength brass alloy is especially useful as a material for oilless bearings for high pressure and a sliding plate.
