Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently remove a scale, by successively installing a scale breaker for generating cracks in the scale along the advancing direction of a steel sheet, an apparatus for blasting shots against the cracked scale, and a nozzle for ejecting liquid against the steel sheet surface during the shot blasting period. CONSTITUTION:When a steel sheet 3 running out of a hot rolling line is fed into a scale breaker 4, the steel sheet 3 passes the rollers 4a-4d while being successively bent in a wave form along the advancing direction of the steel sheet 3 so that the scale covering the surface of the steel sheet 3 generates cracks in a readily removable state. When the steel sheet 3 is carried into a descaling chamber 5, liquid such as water or solution of a water soluble cutting oil is ejected from nozzles 6a and 6b, and shots such as iron sands are blasted by shot blasting apparatuses 7a, 7b utilizing the centrifugal force. Hereby, the scale is effectively removed from the surface of the steel sheet 3.
