Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce dry air efficiently without causing substantial resistance to the air flow and to thereby raise the spacecooling efficiency, by drying air by bringing it into contact with hydrophilic fiber, and regenerating the moisture-absorbed hydrophilic fiber by dehydrating the same by use of solar heat or other heat source.
CONSTITUTION: An annular belt 3 is fabricated by use of hydrophilic fiber consisting of a hygroscopic polymer such as polyacrylic soda. Moisture contained in air is removed by running the annular belt 3 at a low speed in the direction of arrows shown in the drawing and bringing the same into contact with air A to be treated in a moisture absorbing chamber 4. The air A is then cooled by a cooling tube 5 and discharged into a room to be air-conditioned. On the other hand, the annular belt 3 is carried into a dehydrating chamber 6, in which it is dried and regenerated by evaporating moisture absorbed by the belt 3 by use of solar heat or other heat source. With such an arrangment, it is enabled to obtain dry, cool air efficiently without causing substantial resistance to air flow and to thereby raise the efficiency of space-cooling operation.
