Abstract
PURPOSE: To facilitate removal of a can and to improve formability in ironing of a can body by specifying the shape, depth and intervals of the circumferential groove lines of a V shape in section formed on the smooth part of the specific roughness on the side face of a punch.
CONSTITUTION: The side face of a punch 4 is formed of a main side face part 4c, a shoulder part 4a and a constricted part 4d, and the part 4c of a right cylindrical shape is formed as a flat part of ≤0.05μm average roughness. Then, groove lines 11 of about 0.5W5μm depths extending circumferentially are formed on the smooth part at 0.05W2.0mm average intervals. Thence, these are finished, thereby rounding the boundary parts 14 between smooth parts 12 and the groove line parts 11. The reason for specifying these line in that, if the roughness is larger than 0.05μm, frictional resistance is high and this makes removal difficult. If the depth of the groove lines is shallower than 0.5μm, the pooling of a lubricating coolant is not enough, and if it is deeper than 5μm, the margin for finishing at the reworking increases and this will shorten the life of the punch. The intervals smaller or larger than the specific values make removal difficult, and rounding the boundaries 14 reduces the resistance of removal.
