Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect a position of an object exactly and swiftly when a supply position of the object is varied, by storing in advance a pattern existing on the object as plural dictionary patterns, and detecting a position of a partial video coinciding with its dictionary patterns, CONSTITUTION:A synchronizing signal from an image pickup device 1 such as a TV camera, etc. is inputted to a coordinate circuit 2, by which a position in a field of view is detected. Also, a video signal from the image pickup device 1 is made binary by a binary coding circuit 3, and is compared with a dictionary pattern stored in advance in a dictionary pattern memory 5 by a coincidence degree extracting circuit 4. In this case, the size of the dictionary pattern is made smaller than a fueld of view, it is moved in the field of view, and the degree of coincidence is detected one after another. The maximum value of this detected degree of coincidence, and its position are detected by a maximum-value extracting circuit 6, and are compared with a threshold level which has been set in advance by a coincidence degree deciding circuit 7. When they have exceeded the threshold level, the position of the object in the field of view is calculated from the position of the object, in which there is a pattern inputted by a position calculating circuit 8, and an inputted detecting position
